MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 26, 1992
pending at this time.
LaValle asked if St. Joseph's Society was in compliance
with the State's financial regulations.
Blomberg replied that she believed St. Joe's was in
compliance if the months of July through November, 1991
were eliminated. These are the months that a dissident
group operated St. Joe's. Blomberg reported that St.
Joe's attorney has requested that the State Gambling
Board eliminate those months, and the attorney is
confident that the State will honor that request.
LaValle reported that he has reviewed both the 1990 and
1991 Schedule C's for St. Joe's and noted that
contributions dropped dramatically during 1991.
LaValle stated that he hoped that now that the original
group was back in control, that St. Joe's would again
be a strong supporter of the City as they had been in
the past.
Blomberg reported that there was a membership meeting
of St. Joe's last night. At that meeting a$40,000
contribution to the Little Canada Recreation
Association was approved for the months of December,
1991, and January and February of 1992. Blomberg also
reported that the membership approved the January, 1992
payments to the City for the 3% enforcement tax and 10%
capital improvement donation. These funds were given
to the City today.
LaValle reported that in 1990 St. Joe's made a
commitment of $25,000 to help with property purchase
for the new fire station site. These funds were never
received by the City.
Blomberg reported that the membership discussed this
subject last evening, and agreed that as soon as funds
are available, the $25,000 will be paid to the City for
this purpose.
Blesener noted that St. Joe's has already donated
$50,000 towards the fire station property purchase, and
had promised an additional $25,000 when it became
apparent that the property was going to be more
expensive than anticipated.
LaValle acknowledged that St. Joe's has been a real
supporter of the City and its parks as well as capital
improvements. it was noted that the City is putting
together a capital improvement needs list that will be
available for review by charities should they wish to
make any donations to the City over and above what is
required by the ordinance.
Page 8
