MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 22, 1992
PUBLIC Hanson reminded residents to drive safely pointing out
SAFETY that as weather improves there will be more walkers,
joggers, etc. out using City streets.
Hanson reported that some streets in the City have
become raceways, and requested City staff to contact
the Sheriff's Department about this.
EARTH DAY With regard to Earth Day, Hanson reported that he has
toured some park areas within the City and there is a
great deal of junk and debris accumulating. Hanson
requested that the Building Inspector step up
enforcement in this matter, and that Public Works be
instructed to immediately clean up the Thunder Bay Park
play structure. Hanson asked for citizens' cooperation
in keeping the City clean.
RECYCLING Blesener reported that the City has received a letter
BINS from Bellaire Sanitation regarding the rubbish that has
been mixed in with the recycling being collected at the
City Garage. Bellaire has indicated that if this
continues, the City will be invoiced for the recycling
service for the expense of separating rubbish from the
recyclables. Since the City does not have the money
for the additional expense, if the abuse does not stop
the service will have to be removed.
OLD FIRE Scalze reported that the Suburban Chamber of Commerce
STATION has requested to use the lower level of the old fire
station for a fund-raiser. Scalze pointed out that the
City has no policy in effect for the use of this
facility. Scalze also reported that the Building
Inspector has informed her that the exterior doors on
the lower level are acceptable, however the door on the
upper level needs to be turned.
Scalze reported that the member of the Chamber making
the request indicated that they are a taxpayer within
the City and the taxpayers should be able to use this
facility since they are paying for it. Scalze felt the
standing committee should move on this issue so that
the City could generate some revenue to pay for the
maintenance of the building.
Blesener requested that the City Administrator set up a
meeting of the committee and inform Scalze of the
details so that she can attend. Blesener pointed out
that the building is being well used by the Historical
Society, Public Works and Canadian Days. However,
agreed there is not much use of the lower level.
Page 18
