MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 22, 1992
Hanson pointed out that the City does not want to go
into competition with the rental hall across the
street.
Scalze felt if the lower level of the old fire station
is being used for free, the City is already in direct
competition with the hall across the street. Scalze
felt that the lower level should be used to subsidize
the maintenance costs of the building.
PARK Scalze reviewed the two applications received for the
COMMISSION vacancy on the Park Commission, one from Berniece
VACANCY Magnuson and the other from Howard Remerowski.
LaValle asked if there was a limit on the number of
members of the Park Commission who served on the Board
of Directors of LCRA.
Scalze pointed out that the Council is scheduled to
review a proposed ordinance revision dealing with
expanding the duties of the Park Commission to Park and
Recreation Commission. However, the proposal contains
no limit on number of LCRA members who can sit on the
Park Commission. Scalze reported that in reviewing
other cities' ordinances in drafting the proposal, she
found no reference to this subject. Therefore, she
contacted the cities and was informed that if the issue
became a problem it was addressed at the time of
appointment.
By ballot of the Council, Berniece Magnuson was
appointed to the Park Commission for a term to run
through December 31, 1993. Scalze, LaValle, Hanson,
and Collova voted for Magnuson, and Blesener voted for
Remerowski.
RUTH & Scalze reported that every five years the State and
DEMONT County reviews land use deeds to determine if there is
PROPERTY still an interest in use of a property in the manner
designated by a land use deed. Therefore, the County
has contacted the City to determine if it is still
interested in retaining the lot on the corner of Demont
and Ruth Streets for park purposes. Scalze reported
that the Park Commission has reviewed this matter, and
feels that the property should be retained for park
purposes given the recent development of a new warming
house in the area.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
Page 19
