MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 27, 1992
RESOLUTION N0. 92-5-182 - APPROVING THE FILL PERMIT FOR
2456 AND 2480 MCMENEMY ROAD AS REQUESTED SUBJECT TO THE
RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE BUILDING OFFICIAL AS OUTLINED IN
HIS REPORT DATED MAY 27, 1992, AND SUBJECT TO A
COMPLETION DATE OF OCTOBER 1, 1992
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Blesener.
Ayes (5) LaValle, Blesener, Collova, Scalze, Aanson.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
ECONOMIC Scalze reported that she attended a chamber meeting
DEVELOPMENT last week and there was discussion from the past
president, current president, and vice president about
Little Canada's seeking a Star City designation.
Scalze noted that all three of these individuals are
members of the Little Canada business community.
Scalze also reported that it was felt that the
designation would foster community pride and would
assist the City in code enforcement. Scalze reported
that she informed them that she knew some of the work
towards that designation had been done, but there was
still a great deal of work that would need to be done.
Scalze reported that she told the individuals that she
would bring the matter to the Council for discussion.
Scalze further reported that code enforcement was
discussed at the chamber meeting, and it was felt that
code enforcement problems were creating an atmosphere
where businesses do not want to stay in Little Canada
and are going somewhere else.
Scalze felt that since there are three presidents of
the Chamber interested in seeing Little Canada obtain a
Star City designation, this is something the City
should look into. Scalze stated that she would be
willing to work on it.
Hanson agreed to join Scalze's efforts.
Scalze pointed out that an important part of the Star
City designation is City contact with existing
businesses to determine concerns and arrive at
solutions. Scalze noted that the business owners in
Ryan Industrial Park are concerned about the condition
of their area and want to assist the City in cleaning
it up. Scalze suggested that perhaps the Economic
Development Committee should get together and discuss
the matter. Scalze asked how close the City was to
completing the work necessary for a Star City
designation and asked how expensive it would be
complete the process.
Page 20
