MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 7, 1992
the Department. That committee will come back with a
recommendation. It was noted that by having its own
compressor, the Department could fill tanks to last for
longer periods of time, and would have the means to
refill tanks on an emergency basis, if necessary.
The Chief noted that refurbishing the 741 truck has
been on the capital improvement list a lot longer than
the compressor, and the Chief felt the refurbishing
should be a higher priority.
The Chief questioned whether the cost of the compressor
would come from the building fund or the l0o capital
improvement fund.
The City Administrator noted that should the City fund
the unpaid balance of the new fire truck, there may not
be adequate funds left in the building fund to pay for
a compressor. The Administrator indicated that he
listed this item on the l0o capital improvement list to
get the item identified. That does not preclude
funding that item from other sources, if that is
possible.
The Chief noted that funding of hepatitis B
vaccinations has been satisfied by the City. The other
two capital improvement items pending are replacement
of uniforms for the fire fighters, as well as breathing
masks. The Chief asked if the Fire Department had been
reimbursed by the City for the $1,340 cost of ladder
replacement.
The City Administrator suggested if that reimbursement
had not yet taken place, the Fire Department forward
the City a copy of the invoice for the ladders, and the
City would then make reimbursement.
Blesener noted that the City approved the expenditure
for ladder replacement from the 10% capital improvement
fund.
The Chief noted that some of the fire fighters have had
their uniforms for over 20 years, and they are getting
tacky. The Chief reported that the Department would
like to replace the uniforms with a different style.
Estimated cost of replacement is $5,400. It was noted
that no uniforms have been provided for the last 3 or 4
fire fighters which have come on board.
Page 2
