MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 13, 1992
Greg Miller, 2980 Edgerton, reported that he was not in
favor of the water main project, and did not believe he
should be charged for something that he does not want.
Miller pointed out that the City already has the
highest property taxes, and he has no interest in being
taxed higher. Miller asked that the Council continue
to look critically at the situation and to consider the
property owners who will be paying for the improvement.
John Ehrnreiter, 2827 Edgerton, reported that he is in
favor of the water main improvement between Little
Canada Road and LaBore Road, and was the one who
initiated the petition for it. Ehrnreiter felt that
the improvement would increase property values.
Don Rada, 2817 Edgerton, reported that he has lived in
the City for 33 years and this is not his first meeting
on water. Rada felt it unfortunate that the entire
City was not improved with water main many years ago.
Rada felt that the improvement as proposed was a good
one and indicated that he supported it. Rada felt
there were many residents in favor of the improvement,
and felt that not proceeding with the improvement at
this time would just be prolonging it. Rada pointed
out that prices will only increase. Rada agreed that
not having water main is a detriment to selling a
home. Rada also pointed out the position of the Fire
Chief that water main is necessary for fire protection.
Rada indicated that there is not support for this
project, and hoped that the Council would not put it to
a citizen vote.
Tom Karon, 3076 Edgerton, stated that he was opposed to
the assessment as presented. Karon pointed out that he
has one of the narrowest lots on Edgerton, and did not
feel he should have to pay an assessment equal to what
a large lot would receive. Karon was unsure whether or
not he had a copper line into his house as some of the
other property owners put in in anticipation of future
water main.
The City Engineer reported that the copper line would
be evident in the basement if the Karon house had this.
Karon reported that the basement was only recently put
in. Karon also reported that his sewer line comes in
at eye level and he has to pump up to that line.
The Council suggested that this is true because the
basement was put in later, and suggested that to remedy
the situation, Karon would have to install a new
sanitary sewer line at basement level.
