Resolution declared adopted.
CAPITOL John Giovannini, Capitol Community Services, appeared
COMMUNITY before the Council to explain their 1992 Holiday
SERVICES Program. Each year Capitol Community Services
HOLIDAY conducts a holiday food and toy distribution. This
PROGRAM year distribution will begin on December 17th, and it
is expected that it will serve 1,500 households.
Giovannini reported that those needing the service can
register for the program some time in the middle of
November. Registration will be coordinated by Second
Harvest of Greater St. Paul Food Bank. Exact details
of the reqistration have not yet been finalized,
however, these will be provided to City staff as well
as publicized in local newspapers in the very near
future.
Giovannini reported that there will be several drop-off
points for food and toys. Little Canada City xall will
be one of those drop-off points. Collection will begin
on Monday, November 2nd and will run through Friday,
December 18th. Giovannini reported that any family who
participates in the program will receive a bag of food,
a gift Certificate from a local grocery store for
perishable food, and a toy for each child under the age
of 12. Giovannini reported that attempts are made to
collect items for teen-agers, so there may be items
available for that age group. Giovannini reported that
it is estimated that 50,000 pounds of food will be
needed, $15,000 in cash and 12,000 toys. There is also
need for just over 100 volunteers to collect, sort and
help register and distribute the food and toys. Anyone
interested in volunteering can call the North End
Center, Lisa Marque, at 488-0508.
Hanson asked about other types of items that Capitol
Community Services collects such as paper products.
Giovannini agreed that there is an on-going need for
these types of items through the emergency food shelf
that Capitol Community Services operates at 93 West
Little Canada Road.
Hanson asked if there was a specific price-range that
Capitol Community Services is looking for.
Page 4
