MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 3, 1993
Next reviewed were the 1993 Current Committees. Each
of these committees has an assigned function which will
be completed during 1993. These Committees include
Dress Uniforms; SOP; By-Laws; New Truck; Refurbishment
of 741. Boss noted that the Fire Department has
invited two Council Members to serve on the New Truck
Committee. Soss further explained the refurbishing of
the 741. The first phase would involve bringing this
truck into acceptable working order, and the second
involves developing the truck into an incident command
vehicle.
Boss reported that since taking over as Chief in
January of 1993, he has met with each member of the
Fire Department. The areas that have been discussed
this evening have come from those meetings and the
general membership of the Department.
With regard to the status of the old fire station, Boss
questioned the need for a committee to research and
recommend to the Council on this issue. Boss reported
that the last discussion that he was aware of was that
the issue would be worked out between the City Council
and the Fire Department.
Scalze reported that there have been a couple of
committee meetings on the issue of the use of the old
fire station, and that committee did research on what
is being done in other communities. However, the
process has been a slow one. The Council invited
anyone from the general public interested in serving on
that committee to join.
Boss was concerned with one of the individuals who has
volunteered to serve on the committee, feeling that a
unbiased opinion would not be offered by that
individual.
Pedersen pointed out that it will be the City Council
who makes the ultimate decision on the issue.
The City Administrator pointed out the first issue that
the committee looked at was the potential uses of the
building or should the City sell it. It was determined
that there were enough uses to justify keeping the
building. The second issue that the committee looked
at was the allocation of space in the upper level of
the old fire station. That space was allocated, but in
looking at the various uses of the building, the issue
of ineeting ADA requirements arose. The Administrator
felt that the City determined that the next step was
for the committee to look at the use of the lower level
of the old fire station, as well as ADA requirements,
Page 6
