MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 10, 1993
Morelan asked if it were possible to connect to the
County Road B-2 water main running a line between the
Viking Drive lots.
The City Engineer replied that it would be possible to
run a 2-inch line in that fashion, however, this would
not provide fire protection capacity for the Viking
Drive homes. There would also be easements necessary
for running the line between properties.
Morelan asked if the City needed to be involved, or if
the homeowners could take this approach on their own.
The City Administrator pointed out that there would be
connection issues to deal with and that there are no
curb stops in the County Road B-2 water main to provide
for the Vikinq Drive connections.
LaValle pointed out that the issue is the cost of the
water main project. LaValle suqgested that the public
hearing be continued while staff researches the
possibility of additional City participation in the
cost of the improvement.
Gustafson pointed out previous discussion about
combining a number of projects during 1993 in order to
achieve an economy of scale.
The City Engineer reported that typically a job the
size of the Viking Drive water main project would be
combined with a larger project. By doing so,
hopefully, a 10% cost savings could be realized. The
Engineer reported that the costs quoted this evening
consider the project to be a stand-alone project. The
Engineer reported that there are other projects planned
in the City currently out for bid. If the Viking Drive
project is approved, hopefully, it could be combined
with the other 1993 projects as a change-order.
The City Attorney recommended that should the hearing
be continued, it be continued to a specific date. The
City Administrator suggested April 14th.
Scalze asked if staff could determine if there would be
a cost savings in combining the project with the other
1993 projects.
The City Engineer reported that once a contract has
been awarded, the City would approach the contractor
and ask if the Viking Drive project would be accepted
as a change-order. Usually there is a cost savings
because the contractor would have no additional
mobilization costs.
Page 6
