MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL/PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MARCH 10, 1993 <br />citizens. Morelan also felt that the kids that the <br />program may be losing because of the higher cost are <br />exactly the kids with the most need to be involved in <br />the program. <br />Scalze felt that a good share in the decrease in <br />participation came from the day camp session where <br />there had been children repeating the sessions. <br />Wehrle pointed out that the City anticipated some drop <br />in registrations when the fees were raised, and asked <br />if a scholarship program was offered. <br />The Director replied that the LCRA offers a scholarship <br />program. <br />Johnson pointed out that it used to be that <br />registration fees were not charged for the coach's <br />children, and disagreed with that change in policy. <br />Johnson felt that if a coach is volunteering his or her <br />time, a registration fee should not be charged for the <br />coach's child. <br />Wehrle felt that coaches were committed to the program <br />whether the had to pay the registration fee for their <br />child or not. <br />The Director indicated that he heard very few comments <br />on this policy change and indicated that in the past a <br />lot of coaches insisted on paying for their child <br />anyway. <br />Scalze reported that at a recent Community Pride <br />meeting discussion was held on cleaning up the area. <br />The Boy Scouts and 4-H Club will be contacted for <br />assistance in this effort. <br />Hanson pointed out that the City is coqnizant of the <br />scarcity of dollars and is trying to get the most for <br />its money. Hanson pointed out that a few years ago the <br />City received over $300,000 in State Aid monies, and <br />that amourit is now $64,000. <br />Wehrle thanked the Council for its support as far as <br />park development indicating that he realized that <br />although development has not been paid for from <br />operating funds, it does impact the operating budget <br />from a maintenance standpoint. Wehrle reported that he <br />has never heard a bad comment from the citizens on any <br />of the City's park facilities other than on desiqn. <br />Wehrle indicated that he is surprised at the support <br />that the City received for its park and recreation <br />facilities.
