MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 24, 1993
Pedersen stated that he would feel comfortable with a
28-foot width for access streets given that the City
already has streets this width, but would feel
uncomfortable with a 26 foot width.
LaValle indicated that he supported the 28 foot width
as well.
Scalze indicated that she would support a 26 foot
width, but could support 28 foot if that was what the
majority of the Council wanted.
Pedersen pointed out that in actuality the City has 26
foot street widths on some streets six months of the
year due to snow storage.
The City Administrator pointed out the map included in
the Council packets which highlighted limited access
streets which would be potential candidates for 28 foot
widths should they ever be reconstructed.
Hanson felt that Vanderbie should be wider than 28 feet
given the longer lenqth of the street as well as the
potential for extending the street to the north.
Aanson indicated that he could support a narrower width
for Costa Lane.
The City Administrator reported that right now the
plans are to reconstruct Vanderbie to a 32 foot width.
Hanson did not believe that Vanderbie should be
narrower than 30 feet. Hanson believed the same is
true for Allen Avenue, but indicated that he would
support 26 or 28 feet for Costa Lane.
Since Ontario Road is presently 29 1/2 feet wide,
Scalze indicated that she could support 30 foot widths
for Vanderbie and Allen Avenue.
The City Administrator indicated that the question is
how Vanderbie and Al1en are used for access, and
suggested that Allen might be used as a connection from
Edgerton to Pioneer Park.
Pedersen felt that the City needed a street
classification policy so that these issues do not have
to be discussed on a case-by-case basis when street
reconstruction projects come up.
The City Administrator agreed, indicating that the City
Council would classify streets and widths would be set
for the various classifications. There may, however,
be need for readjustments to the policy if a street is
reconstructed in ten years time, for example, and
Page 4
