Minutes
City Council
April 7, 1993
Scalze asked what was installed on DeSoto Street. The
Engineer stated that it is B618 on the west side and
surmountable on the east.
Pederson felt that it would help if he could actually see
two cars on each road to see how they fit. He felt it was
hard to visualize without actually seeing it. Morelan
indicated that he has driven on some of the streets where
there have been parked cars and if there would have been a
car approaching from the opposite end, it would have been
difficult to pass the parked car. Morelan felt that he
could tell the difference between a 28 and 32 foot street.
Scalze asked which streets Morelan felt were too narrow.
Morelan stated that he did not think any were too narrow,
but he could tell which ones were narrower. Morelan stated
that Savage Lane has B618 on one side and nothing on the
other. He felt that street was too narrow. Morelan stated
that after driving around, the conclusion he came to was
that the 28, 30, and 32 foot streets that were discussed at
the last meeting made a lot of sense to him. Mayor Hanson
stated that the Superintendent of Public Works said that he
would hate to see the Council adopt anything less than 28
feet.
Morelan indicated that he also asked the Superintendent of
Public Works about putting B618 in a new development and
then cutting out sections for the driveways. The
Superintendent stated that it has been done, but the problem
with that concept is that there is reinforced rod throughout
the curbing that has to be cut and then the cohesion is
lost. In addition, some of the bituminous would be lost and
would have to be patched.
Morelan asked what would happen on Vanderbie when the B618
changes to surmountable curb as far as the width of the
road. The Engineer stated that it would be blended in and
would not be noticeable.
The City Administrator stated that in most instances a B618
curb would be preferred for a driveway transition because it
would be more smooth. Nagel stated that he felt that the
B618 was more desireable and the residents of his street
would not support anything but B618.
-4-
