MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 14, 1993
Little Canada Bingo Hall effective May 1st. This
leaves St. Joseph's and North Suburban Youth
Association as the remaining tenants. NSYA currently
as two days at the Little Canada Bingo Hall and two
days at a Roseville location, therefore, have reached
their 7 occasion limitation. Blomberg anticipated that
it may be necessary to close the Little Canada Bingo
Hall two nights per week with the current tenant
situation.
Hanson asked if a rotation schedule would be continued
at the bingo hall. Hanson also asked if the rent would
remain the same as it is currently.
Blomberg reported that she has requested Mover's
Warehouse to consider allocating St. Joseph's the
Friday day and evening sessions. There would be no
rotation of Fridays, in order to assure compliance with
the 7 occasion limitation. Blomberg also replied that
rent would remain the same.
Morelan asked if the St. Joe's membership has discussed
the additional night recently.
Blomberg replied that they had, but did not make a
formal motion on the matter since they have the
previous motion on record.
LaValle asked if Blomberg has the recent minutes where
the issue was discussed. LaValle also commented that
he has received three calls on the rent issue, asking
when that would be addressed. LaValle indicated that
according to compliance figures that the City has, the
bingo operation is obviously not a money-making
situation at this point. LaValle suggested that the
request be tabled at this point until the rent issue
has been discussed.
Blomberg pointed out that if St. Joe's takes another
night at the bingo hall, the hall may only have to
closed on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Otherwise it
will have to close three evenings per week.
Scalze felt that the Council needed to have a workshop
to discuss gambling issues, not only rents, but other
issues as well.
Blomberg pointed out that the bingo hall is full of
employees who depend on their jobs Blomberg also
stated that she would like to try three nights at the
hall to see if it would be profitable to have an
additional night.
Page 12
