MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL,
MARCH 26, 2025
Maplewood will also provide a resolution of support. He stated that if grant funds are awarded, it
would reduce the overall cost, and the remainder would still be split between the two communities in
the 60/40 cost split agreement.
Miller asked if the project would still move forward if the grant is not awarded. The Parks and
Recreation Director replied that the city has the funds available and would still move forward with the
project if the grant were not awarded. He explained that the grant would simply reduce the cost to the
cities if awarded.
Mayor Fischer acknowledged that the project is needed.
Miller introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Kwapick.
Ayes (4). Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
CONTRACT WITH RES PYRO FOR CANADIAN DAYS FIREWORKS
The City Clerk/HR Manager presented the proposed 2025 contract for fireworks at the Canadian Days
Festival. She reviewed the previous contributions the city has made for fireworks since 2021, noting
that Canadian Days continues to also contribute $4,000. She stated that the festival requested a larger
finale last year, which shortened the overall show. She asked if there is appetite from the Council to
increase the funding for the fireworks. She explained that the funds the city uses come from the
charitable gambling/ten percent fund. She suggested an increase of $3,000 to $5,000, but noted that
the Council can also continue to contribute the same amount of funding.
Kwapick reiterated that these funds come from charitable gambling and not the general fund or levy.
Mayor Fischer stated that when he tells people where he is from, they often mention Canadian Days
and the fireworks show. He stated that they have contributed the same amount for many years and
supported the nominal increase, suggesting an increase of $4,000.
Gutierrez introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOL UTION NO. 2025-3-49 — APPRO VING AN INCREASE OF $4, 000 TO THE CITY'S
CONTRIRUTIONAMOUNT TOWARDS THE CANADIANDAYS FIREWORKS FOR
2025
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Kwapick
Ayes (4).
