MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 12, 1993
looked at starting a gambling operation in the City of
Maplewood, but was not allowed to do so because they
are an outside organization.
Hanson suggested that if there are not enough City
organizations to run the bingo hall seven days per
week, the City has handicapped the bingo hall because
there are not enough qualifying tenants.
Dick Pillsbury suggested that before the City looked at
orqanizations from outside the City, it should try to
help the existing organizations within the City.
Pillsbury reported that Little Canada Charity Plus has
not exhausted all of its options, and have not excluded
the option of getting back into bingo. However, the
current situation at the Little Canada Bingo Hall is
intolerable.
Hanson did not believe that charities have left the
bingo hall because of anything that the City has done.
LaValle asked what TCF would charge for a 10,000 square
foot space.
Jim Stellick pointed out that TCF has negotiated about
$225 per session for a 11,500 square foot space.
Stellick pointed out that that amount includes the base
rent at approximately $7 to $8 per square foot plus all
other expenses at about $5 to $7 per square foot
additional. That rental figure was based on a seven
day operation.
Boss reported that there is space available in strip
malls within the City for $13 to $14 per square foot
all inclusive.
O'Kane reported that rental rates at the Market Place
are $7.50 to $9.00 per square foot plus taxes and
common area fees.
LaValle asked if 11,500 square feet was enough space
for the bingo hall.
Boss replied that it was. Short disagreed, and
reported that the LCBH currently has over 13,000 square
feet.
Stellick again pointed out that the $225 rent quoted by
TCF was based on 16 bingo sessions.
Matson asked if the rent would be reduced if sessions
were increased.
Page 8
