MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 26, 1993
LaValle reported that he has had conversations about
the equity and inequity of the City's issuing two bingo
hall licenses, as well as conversations about amending
the ordinance to limit the size of the bingo hall.
LaValle reported that it is apparent that the crowds
are down at the hall and a smaller facility is
feasible.
Betty Matson, NSYA, reported that their organization
met with representatives of the Market Place.
Bob Matson reported that he had some informal
discussions with Tom Short of Mover's Warehouse, and no
conclusion or agreement was reached. Matson reported
that NSYA is interested in a lower rent and in getting
the best possible deal, and would relocate wherever
that deal was offered. Matson reported that expenses
are high. This evening there are only about 150
customers at the bingo hall, thus NSYA will lose money
tonight by operating. Matson reported that he has no
written proposal from either TCF or Mover's Warehouse
at this point.
Short reported that currently NSYA is the only
organization under a solid lease.
Matson agreed, but pointed out that the lease is
contingent upon the bingo hall license renewal as well
as NSYA premise permit renewal.
O'Kane reported that Market Place held a meeting with
NSYA, Trade Lake Camp, and Canadian Days last Monday.
Little Canada Charity as well as St. Joseph's Society
was invited to that meeting, but did not attend. All
the charities that Market Place thought were interested
were invited to the meeting. O'Kane reported that TCF
would like to see a minimum of three charities willing
to located at the Market Place, but four would be
better.
Matson reported that at the meeting it was discussed
that three organizations could operate a bingo hall
seven days per week and rotate nights. Four
organizations provides a cushion. It was felt that
more than four charities would dilute the number of
sessions necessary to operate successfully.
Page 2
