MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 26, 1993
different feelings on the access. Scalze pointed out
that City staff was asked to address this issue with
the County, and this is who should handle it.
Hanson reported that he and Gene DeLonais met with Dan
Soler of Ramsey County who indicated that if the site
were first being developed, the County would not allow
the Little Canada Road curb cut as it exists today.
However, since it is an existing situation, the County
would live with it.
Scalze pointed out that if a property is being
redeveloped, it should be redeveloped in the manner
that City staff feels is correct.
Gerten again indicated that he had no problem with
limiting the Little Canada Road access to right turn in
and out. Gerten felt that given the limited amount of
traffic to the site, it was not a big issue.
Morelan asked if there were generally accepted
standards for the curb cut proposed on Centerville
Road.
The City Planner replied that the City's Code requires
a 24 foot minimum curb cut for commercial property.
Gerten replied that the Centerville Road curb cut could
be expanded to a 24 foot width. Gerten pointed out
that the Little Canada Road curb cut was basically an
exit for vehicles leaving the site.
LaValle indicated that he did not see a safety problem
with the Little Canada Road curb cut as long as it is
posted right turn in and out only.
There was no one else from the general public present
wishing to comment on this matter.
Upon motion by LaValle, seconded by Morelan, the public
hearing was closed.
Scalze suggested that approval of the CUP be
conditioned upon an annual review to determine if there
is a problem with the Little Canada Road access.
LaValle felt that the restriction of right turn in and
out was adequate, and felt that with the limited
traffic to the site the annual review was not
necessary.
Pedersen pointed out that without changing the curb
configuration, there will still be left hand turns
Page 7
