MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 15, 1993
not increase it. Scalze pointed out that if the City
takes away nights that are available for local
charities, these local charities do not have the option
of going somewhere else to raise funds. Scalze also
pointed out that St. Joseph's Society has offered to
take three days of bingo, reserving one day for a local
charity should one come forward and express an
interest.
LaValle pointed out that NSYA is currently operating a
second night of bingo on a temporary basis. That
second night became available when Lake Owasso pulled
out of the bingo hall. LaValle asked if Lake Owasso is
currently operating any pull-tab sites.
Betty Strohbeen replied that they are not.
Hanson pointed out that at the time the ordinance was
adopted, there were enough organizations to operate a
full-time bingo hall.
Morelan felt the decision would be a lot easier if
there were enough Little Canada organizations
interested in operating at a bingo hall on a 7-day
rotation schedule.
Scalze pointed out that it was always indicated that
the second night that NSYA is operating was being held
open for Lake Owasso should they chose to return.
Pedersen pointed out that by signing the leases with
the attached rotation schedule, the organizations have
indicated their acceptance of that schedule. Pedersen
felt it appeared the City was trying to protect
organizations that do not wish to be protected.
Pedersen asked if the organizations are willing to live
with the rotation schedule which has been presented,
why was the City worried about it.
Scalze pointed out that if the City were starting over,
Lake Owasso and NSYA would not be allowed to operate in
Little Canada at all.
Lois Blomberg reported that should Lake Owasso not be
accepted by the City, St. Joe's was willing to take a
third night and reserve it for another Little Canada
charity.
Schmidt pointed out that there is a provision in the
lease which states that if a Little Canada organization
approaohed MKP for a lease, the rotation schedule may
be amended to add that organization. Al1 sessions
would then be shared equally if a tenant is added or
one taken away, rather than just one of the existing
organizations giving up a day.
Page 8
