MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />JULY 14, 1993 <br />TIF DISTRICT The City Administrator reported on the need to call a <br />HEARING public hearing to consider the creation of a Tax <br />RICE STREET Increment Financing District along a portion of Rice <br />REDEVELOPMENT Street. The Administrator reported that TIF laws <br />AREA change on August 1, 1993 and with the new law change <br /> TIF could not be used for redevelopment projects of <br /> this type. Therefore, it is necessary to create the <br /> new District prior to August lst. The Administrator <br /> pointed out that redevelopment has been discussed for <br /> this area, therefore, the City would like to have TIF <br /> available as a tool should a redevelopment project be <br /> proposed. <br /> Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and <br /> moved its adoption: <br /> RESOLUTION N0. 93-7-219 - CALLING A PUBLIC HEARING FOR <br /> WEDNESDAY, JULY 28, 1993, AT 7:30 P.M. TO CONSIDER THE <br /> CREATION OF A TIF REDEVELOPMENT DISTRICT ALONG A <br /> PORTION OF RICE STREET WITHIN LITTLE CANADA <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze. <br />Ayes (5) LaValle, Scalze, Hanson, Morelan, Pedersen. <br />Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />SHERIFF LaValle reported on campaign literature that is being <br />CAMPAIGN distributed by Bob Fletcher in his campaign for the <br />LITERATURE position of Ramsey County Sheriff. LaValle reported <br />that this literature talks about making available <br />assigned radios to all deputies as well as take-home <br />squads. LaValle reported that while this would have a <br />lot of advantages, the contracting cities will <br />ultimately pay cost for this additional equipment. <br />LaValle asked if the City should go on record <br />identifying its concerns in relation to the rising cost <br />of police protection. <br />It was the consensus of the Council that this was <br />initial information distributed to the deputies and <br />that it would be pre-mature to take a position on the <br />issue at this point. <br />SPRINKLING Morelan suggested that for public safety reasons, the <br />REQUIREMENTS City look into amending the Code to require the <br />FOR COMMERCIAL sprinkling of existing buildings. Morelan reported <br />AND INDUSTRIAL that this has been done in other areas of the <br />BUILDINGS country. <br />Hanson asked how many multiple-family dwellings within <br />the City were not sprinkled. <br />Paqe 14 <br />
