MINiI'PES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 25, 1993
Costa pointed out that the trees on the Slumberland
site that were planted a couple of years ago to provide
screening have not grown.
Hagman reported that some of these trees will be
replanted on top of the berm and there will be some new
trees added as well.
The City Administrator pointed out the substantial
grade deviation from the west property line and the
area in question, and the fact that the existing trees
along the west line provide virtually no screening.
Planting these trees on top of a berm should provide a
fairly effective screen.
There was no one else from the general public present
wishing to comment on this matter.
Upon motion be Hanson, seconded by Pedersen, the public
hearing was closed.
Scalze asked the size of the semi-trailer parking area
to be added.
Hagman replied that the additional parking area would
be 21o feet by 48 feet.
The City Planner recommended that the permit be
conditioned upon submission of a complete site plan.
Morelan asked Ms. Costa if the screening as proposed is
acceptable.
Costa indicated that the trees that were planted a
couple of years ago have not grown at all, and that it
will take years before the trees grow enough to provide
screening.
Hagman suggested that 10 foot trees be planted.
Morelan suggested that the Council should have a
detailed landscaping plan to review.
Hagman reported that Slumberland is willing to do
whatever necessary to provide adequate screening, and
pointed out that they have already met with the City
Planner on the site to determine the best location for
the berm. Hagman reported that they had planned to
plant 6 foot trees to match the existing trees which
will be relocated to the berm.
Council consensus was to require larger trees than the
minimum 6 foot height required by the ordinance.
Page 17
