MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 22, 1993
BRAUSEN Council reviewed the request of Laurie Strohbeen for
PROPERTY extension of the time within which to record a property
DIVISION division which was previously approved by the City
EXTENSION Council.
Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 93-9-298 - APPROVING A SIX-MONTH
EXTENSION FOR RECORDING OF PROPERTY DIVISION APPROVAL
GRANTED FOR 461 AND 475 EAST VIKING DRIVE AS REQUESTED
BY LAURIE STROHBEEN
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (5) LaValle, Scalze, Hanson, Pedersen, Morelan.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
RICE STR. Messrs. Joe Vitale and Gary Collyard appeared before
REDEVEIAP- the Council to update them on the Rice Street
MENT redevelopment project. Vitale reported that Mr.
PROJECT Collyard had been meeting with proposed tenants, and
drawings of the development project are being revised.
Vitale reported that there is still a lot of planning
that needs to be done for this project, and that they
were not here this evening asking for any permits or
approvals.
Gary Collyard stated that they wanted to reiterate
their commitment to the project. Collyard reported
that it is a large undertaking, and there are committed
resources to the project. Collyard stated that the
project has to be a team effort because the benefits
will be massive for the community. Collyard also
indicated that he is aware of the City's #1 tax status,
and felt this project would change that situation.
Collyard also felt the project would cure the exodus of
business that the City is having.
Collyard explained the first phase of the plan which
includes a new Venetian Inn of 7,000 to 10,000 square
feet, plus an approximately 50,000 square foot grocery
store, a movie theater and retail space. Collyard
reported that it is felt the project would be
successful since it sits at an intercepter point
between tHe competition.
Collyard felt the project was important if Little
Canada was going to be kept in the market. Collyard
viewed the project as the Venetian Gateway Project for
Little Canada, pointing out the unique location the
project has given the proximity of 694, Highway 36, and
35E.
Page 13
