MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 22, 1993
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Scalze.
Ayes (4) Morelan, Scalze, Hanson, Pedersen.
Nays (1) LaValle. Resolution declared adopted.
LaValle stated that he was opposed to this action
because of the program structure.
Scalze expressed concern that the program description
refers to the temporary inspector as "the fire
inspector".
The Administrator suggested that the wording be changed
to reflect that the inspector is a temporary, at-will
inspector who reports to the Fire Marshal.
Scalze indicated that she was not interested in
creating a department of fire inspectors, and stated
that she thought the fire inspector was a temporary
position created to get the City caught up on fire
inspections.
The Administrator replied that this was correct, but he
did not see the title as a critical issue. The
Administrator indicated that a confirmation letter
would be sent to the fire inspector indicating that the
position was temporary and at-will, and would be
discontinued as soon as the City deems appropriate.
The Administrator stated that to him the title Fire
Marshal indicates duties of fire inspecting along with
some additional duties.
LaValle stated that he would like to see a list of fire
inspections that have been done during 1993.
The Administrator suggested that given the concerns
with the structure of the program that he put the
program parameters in written form for the Council's
review.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 93-9-309 - RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO.
93-9-307
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (3) Scalze, LaValle, Pedersen.
Nays (2) Morelan, Hanson. Resolution declared adopted.
Morelan indicated that he was familiar with the fire
inspection program and felt there was no reason to look
into the matter further.
Page 27
