MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 30, 1993
the expected result was not. The Administrator
suggested that a system needs to be developed for the
Canadian Days Celebration so that as committee people
change, there is a point of reference to go by.
Scalze reported that there was documentation for
coordination of Canadian Days several years ago and
reported that all Committee members had books with that
documentation. Scalze felt that the coordinator role
in Canadian Days was important, and indicated that she
saw nothing wrong with funding that position.
The Administrator reported that some other cities have
a staff person serving as coordinator, and suggested
that Little Canada do the same thing. The
Administrator also felt the City's role should be
defined more clearly. The Administrator indicated that
the additional $1,500 in the budget would cover some
coordination costs and some increased costs in the
program.
Bruce reported that the role of the coordinator is
year-round, and also reported that the Committee is
trying to raise funds so that Canadian Days will not be
a burden on the City, but at the same time will provide
a Celebration that everyone will enjoy.
LaValle suggested that the Council take some time to
think about the dollar amount for a coordinator.
Scalze asked if $3,500 had been budgeted for fire
works.
Morelan replied that the $3,500 was based on the fact
that the last fire works at Canadian Days ran $3,000
and some inflation was factored in as well. Morelan
asked if the City had an ordinance covering fire works
displays.
Scalze pointed out that fire works are allowed by
permit, and there is a City requirement for insurance
coverage.
Council reviewed the Cable TV budget, and the
Administrator pointed out that additional funds had
been budgeted for personnel costs. The Administrator
noted the additional time the Cable TV producer is
spending working on the Little Canada News Program. It
is also anticipated that there will be a cut back in
capital outlay during 1994.
Morelan asked about the transfer of funds from Cable TV
to the General Fund.
Page 22
