MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 13, 1993
CONSENT Council reviewed the consent agenda. The City
AGENDA Administrator pointed out the application from the
Sheriff's Department for a grant for the Police Hiring
Supplement Program included on that agenda. The
Administrator reported that there are grant monies
available through the Department of Justice for hiring
supplemental personnel. If the Sheriff's Department
grant were approved, it would be used to hire an
additional Crime Prevention Officer and additional
power shift personnel. These are positions that were
planned to be added in 1995 and 1996 respectively, but
availability of grant funds would speed up the
process. The grant is a 50% matching grant. If the
grant is funded, cost allocation between the
contracting cities would have to be worked out. The
addition of this personnel would have a tremendous
impact on Little Canada and its problem areas.
Morelan asked if the City should allocate funds in the
1994 budget for its share of matching grant funds in
the event the grant is approved.
The Administrator reported that, if approved, the
hiring process would not take place until some time
during 1994, therefore, a full year's funding would not
be necessary. The Administrator felt there would be
adequate fund on hand to cover the City's share of the
matching grant for a portion of 1994.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 93-10-324 - APPROVING THE CONSENT AGENDA
WHICH INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
*REQUEST FOR TEMPORARY ON-SALE LIQUOR LICENSE FROM
THE LITTLE CANADA RECREATION ASSOCIATION FOR
HALLOWEEN DANCE TO BE HELD OCTOBER 30, 1993;
*RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE SHERIFF DEPARTMENT'S
SUBMITTAL OF GRANT APPLICATION FOR THE POLICE
HIRING SUPPLEMENT PROGRAM;
*APPROVAL OF DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT RELEASE FOR THE
RICE AT C CENTER;
*VOUCHERS
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Scalze, LaValle, Hanson, Pedersen, Morelan.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
Page 5
