MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 13, 1993
the homes on Maple Lane are developed and occupied, the
City cannot be sure of the needs of the community in
that area. Scalze also reported that residential
neighbors have informed her that the Trane Company
parking lot has vacant parking spaces in it most of the
time.
Joe Fasciana, 2884 Jackson Street, reported that he
opposed the rezoning of the property at the time it was
rezoned. Fasciana reported that there is a crying need
for recreation in this area. Fasciana reported that
there is a lot of concrete buried on the City's park
property. Fasciana also reported that where the
parking lot is proposed, the Trane Company would have
to excavate the land to construct the lot. This would
damage the trees on the property. There are
currently over 100 employees at the site operating one
shift, and Trane Company is thinking about adding a
second shift.
Pedersen asked about rental income to the City for the
temporary parking. Pedersen also asked about grading
plans for the site.
Rue replied that a rental fee could be negotiated. Rue
also reported that the plan would be to level the area
for the parking, and there are some trees that would
need to be removed, but the huge trees at the corner of
the property would stay. Rue pointed out that the
property is of no use with the concrete and potholes in
it now.
Scalze pointed out that the Park Commission has asked
for some time to consider this issue, wanting to hear
what the neighbors think about it. It is a small piece
of land, and the Park Commission wants to see the land
developed into a usable park. Scalze felt that both
residents and businesses in the area could share the
Page 9
