MINUTES CITY COUNCIL NOVEMBER 24, 1993 Thill indicated that development to the east in Maplewood has driven deer into Little Canada, and felt the deer that are in the City were here to stay. Scalze reported that there have been deer in the City for as long as she can remember, and felt that there was enough open property under the power lines that the deer would remain. Frattalone asked that he be given a permit to address the problem on his property, indicating that he would like to keep gardening for a few more years. Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 93-11-269 - INSTRUCTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR TO CONTACT THE DNR TO DETERMINE HOW MANY DEER COULD BE TAKEN FROM THE AREA BY PERMIT AND THE DETAILS ON THE MECHANICS OF COORDINATING A CITY PERMITTING PROCESS The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Pedersen. Ayes (5) LaValle, Pedersen, Hanson, Scalze, Morelan. Nays (O). Resolution declared adopted. Mr. Frattalone was informed that this matter would be addressed at the next Council meetinq. Scalze again stated that she would not vote on amending the ordinance to allow bow and arrow hunting until the neighbors to the Frattalone property were invited to a Council meeting to voice their opinion on the issue. Morelan suggested that he would like to hear what the DNR has to say and whether or not they felt allowing the taking of deer by bow and arrow would successfully address the problem Mr. Frattalone is having. Morelan suggested that someone from the DNR should address the Council on this issue. The Administrator clarified that the Council would like to know the long-term effect that allowing the taking of deer by bow and arrow would have on the problem.
