MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
DECEMBER 16, 1993
CUP & Hanson pointed out that the Planning Commission has
VARIANCE tabled action on the application submitted by The
FOR SECOND Market Place Shopping Center for a Conditional Use
PYLON SIGN Permit and Variance for a second pylon sign at the
TIIE MARKET shopping center. The City Planner will be looking at
PLACE alternatives which he will present to the Commission
SHOPPING for consideration at their next meeting. Hanson
CENTER pointed out that it appeared from the Planning
Commission minutes that a lot of the members were in
favor of helping the business in some way given the
economic hardships that the center has been under. The
concern, however, was to give that help without setting
a precedent.
The City Planner reported that the Commission was
interested in doing what is best for the shopping
center rather than taking action on something that just
happened to fit.
Mr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoptions
RESOLUTION NO. 93-12-292 - TABLING ACTION ON THE
APPLICATION FOR CUP AND VARIANCE FOR A SECOND PYLON AT
TAE MARKET PLACE SHOPPING CENTER PENDING A
RECOMMENDATION FROM THE PLANNING COMMISSION
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Pedersen.
Ayes (5) Morelan, Pedersen, Hanson, Scalze, LaValle.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
Scalze noted that the Burger King building is coming
down and there have been calls to the Sheriff's
Department regarding this demolition. Scalze asked if
the City notified the Sheriff's Department when
demolition permits are issued.
The City Administrator replied that he would check on
these procedures.
BOW AND Hanson pointed out that the City has received a letter
ARROW from Gary Meis, a resident on Vanderbie, indicating
PII2MITS that he is in favor of trying to control the deer
population in the City.
Scalze pointed out that Meis raises an interesting
point about talking to the owner of Bwana Archery about
qualifications of bow hunters.
LaValle indicated that John Parker of the DNR has
indicated that they can do some screening of hunters.
Page 7
