MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 12, 1994
Administrator commented that if the Council decides to
do a survey, it should know what it wants to accomplish
with it.
Scalze pointed out that part of the survey process was
development of a vision statement for the City.
The Administrator pointed out that at the goal-settinq
session a committee was appointed to work on a vision
statement.
Scalze asked if focus groups would be formed to develop
survey questions.
The Administrator suggested that the first step would
be to determine the qoals for the survey. The
Administrator felt that the Council should have more
discussion with survey professionals about what the
survey can accomplish for the City.
Morelan questioned the purchase of a lap-top computer
projected for 1995.
The Administrator replied that the need for this item
has not yet been finalized, and justification is still
required for this purchase. However, the purchase is
projected for 1995 with further analysis to be done.
Council reviewed the Fire Department capital
improvement budget. The Administrator pointed out that
$80,000 is projected for 1995 for purchase of a new
fire truck. These funds, added to the Fire Truck
Replacement Fund as well as the money realized from the
sale of the old fire truck, would be applied toward the
purchase of a new truck. A figure of $230,000 has been
estimated as the cost of truck replacement, however,
further analysis indicates that this may not be enough.
The Fire Chief reported that there have been several
meetings of the truck committee. A couple of years ago
a truck replacement cost of $230,000 was estimated.
However, industry prices have been increasing 13% per
year, therefore, the committee feels that the cost of
the truck will be $20,000 to $25,000 over estimate. In
addition, the old pumper is beginning to develop some
obvious problems, and it may not be possible to qet as
much for that truck as initially estimated. The Chief
reported that the truck may have to be traded in rather
than sold outright. The Department would not sell the
truck to another community without pointinq out its
problems.
Page 6
