MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 23, 1994
JACKSON STR. the cost of a stop light at Demont and Rice Street,
installation of stop signs along the streets as well as
speed bumps. The Administrator suggested that while
the installation of a stop light at Demont and Rice
Street may sound like a good idea, one comment made
last evening was that traffic would not go that way
even if there were a stop light in that location.
Morelan agreed that given the number of stop lights on
Rice Street in route to Aighway 36 and the fact that
two metered ramps would have to be used to get to 35E,
traffic may not go to Rice Street even if there were a
stop light.
Hanson asked what the cost to the City would be for
installation of a stop light at Demont and Rice Street.
Morelan asked if the County could provide the City with
a recommendation as to whether or not a stop light
would positively impact the situation, relieving
traffic on Lakeshore/Old County Road C/Jackson.
The City Administrator replied that he would ask the
County for their opinion.
Hanson pointed out that the residents in the area would
like a stop sign on Jackson Street.
Scalze suggested that not only a stop sign be installed
to slow traffic, but a speed bump as well. Scalze did
not believe a stop sign alone would slow traffic.
Pedersen suggested that a stop sign be tried first
before a speed bump is installed.
LaValle pointed out that the residents of the area are
not accustomed to having a stop sign in that location,
and suggested that if one were installed the
appropriate warning signs be used to draw the
residents' attention to the signs.
Morelan suggested that a crosswalk also be painted
across Jackson Street at Lake Street since pedestrians
are crossing there to get to the park.
Scalze pointed out that the residents are not only
12
