MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 23, 1994
The Administrator reported that he will contact
Decision Resources for the final scope of services,
cost, and information on how the process will work,
including participation of focus groups in that
process.
DELETION OF The City Administrator reported that the City is
MEDICAL paying a$300 annual premium for Medical Payments
PAYMENTS Coverage. The City has the option of deleting this
CoVERAGE coverage, and the Administrator pointed out the League
of Minnesota Cities memo on this subject. The
Administrator reported that in reviewing the
information provided from the League, it was his
recommendation that the City delete its Medical
Payments Coverage and take advantage of the cost
savings. The Administrator stated that should someone
get hurt on City property and have a settlement coming,
the City's policy would provide for that settlement
anyway under current coverage.
Scalze suggested that Medical Payments Coverage gives
the City some flexibility and is not very expensive.
Scalze asked if the Administrator did not believe in
the public relations value of having this type of
insurance.
The City Administrator pointed out that deletion of
Medical Payments Coverage gets away from a double-
insurance situation in many instances. The
Administrator also pointed out that the City's
insurance through the League's Trust is flexible enough
that if there were negligence on the part of the City,
the City could ask the League to consider making a
settlement.
Mr. Morelan introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 94-3-77 - DELETING THE CITY~S MEDICAL
PAYMENTS COVERAGE
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (5) Morelan, LaValle, Hanson, Pedersen, Scalze.
Nays (0).
