MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 13, 1994
Morelan pointed out that in the past a liquor license was
a valuable asset. However, due to liquor liability law
changes, he did not believe this to be the case any
longer.
The Administrator pointed out that his analysis shows
that the City is generatinq a positive margin on the
other types of liquor licenses. The Administrator also
pointed out the nature of the liquor establishments in
Little Canada versus other cities, and felt that the fees
currently being charged were appropriate.
PETITION TO Hanson reported that the City is in receipt of a
INCREASE petition containing 455 signatures requesting that the
SPEED LIMIT speed limit on Country Drive be increased from 30 mph
ON COUNTRY to 40 mph. It was noted that the Council has acted on
DRIVE a similar request a few years ago increasing the speed
limit to 35 mph based on a Aighway Department study.
However, after residents objected to this action, the
Council reversed its decision, and the speed limit
remains at 30 mph.
Frank Frattalone appeared before the Council in support
of the increased speed. Frattalone reported that 30 mph
on Country Drive is dangerous since traffic is pushing at
vehicles going 30 mph or else trying to pass. Frattalone
felt that Country Drive should be posted 40 mph.
Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and moved
its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 94-4-96 - ACCEPTING THE PETITION FOR
INCREASED SPEED ON COUNTRY DRIVE FROM 30 MPH TO 40 MPH
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Morelan.
Ayes (5) LaValle, Morelan, Hanson, Pedersen, Scalze.
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
Scalze felt that before action is taken on the petition,
the residents of the area should be asked for their
input.
Morelan indicated that he would like to have time to
evaluate the previous Council minutes included in the
Additions to the Agenda on this matter.
The Administrator noted that the petition is asking for a
23
