MINUTES CITY COUNCIL APRIL 27, 1994 The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Pedersen. Ayes (5) LaValle, Pedersen, Hanson, Scalze, Morelan. Nays (O). Resolution declared adopted. CANABURY The Fire Chief reported on the recent fire at the TOWNHOMES Canabury Townhome complex. It was the feeling of the Chief that due to the fire fighting capabilities of the Department's ladder truck, the damage at the complex was contained quickly thus saving lives and many dollars in property damage. The Chief congratulated the Council and Fire Department on its good planning and foresight in purchasing this truck. Damage at the complex consisted of the loss of 3 or 4 units, personal property, and 5 vehicles. Dollar estimates range from $800,000 to $1,000,000. Without the ladder truck, that damage would have been much more. The Chief reported that three fire fighters rescued an individual from a balcony during the fire. There were also three fire fighters injured, however, all will be fine. The Chief reported that the City's Cable TV Producer is working on a video tape of the blaze which, when completed, will be shown on the City's cable TV channel. The City Administrator reported that he has received calls from residents who indicated that they were very impressed with the way the Little Canada Fire Department responded to and fought the blaze. It was a job well done, and a massive effort on the part of the Little Canada Fire Department and the mutual aid responders. The Chief thanked the Council for its continued support. The Administrator indicated that the City is also fortunate to have an individual like Tom Ducharme serving on the fire truck committee. The Administrator also reported that he was very impressed with the process that the committee has gone through and the expertise of the individuals on the committee. The committee has been very accountable and is concerned about spendinq dollars wisely. 26
