MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 27, 1994
more traffic to the site. Van Wormer guessed that the
figures quoted have a 90% accuracy rate, and indicated
that SEH usually tries to estimate traffic volumes on the
high side.
Morelan asked what the maximum traffic the Little Canada
Road/Country Drive intersection can handle.
Van Wormer replied that at the west ramp of the
intersection traffic volumes could be at 90% of capacity,
however, noted that this is purely an estimate on his
part.
Pedersen asked about the amount of left turns in the area
now as well as what daily traffic volumes are.
Van Wormer replied that there are a relatively small
amount of left turns now, and that the County~s
information indicates 16,000 vehicles per day on Little
Canada Road.
Pedersen pointed out that the 2,500 trips to 5A each day
equates to 1,250 customers turning into and out of the
site.
Scalze pointed out that there will be approximately 500
additional vehicles in the area per day as a result of
the SA development, which she felt was a significant
number given the fact that the intersection is at 90%
capacity.
Van Wormer again pointed out that the 90% was just an
estimate. Van Wormer agreed that one could not say the
additional traffic will have no impact, and the Council
must consider how the traffic will be added to the
intersection. Van Wormer pointed out that customers will
not come to SA if access to the site is too difficult.
Customers will go where access is easier.
Hanson pointed out that this has been acknowledged by SA.
Van Wormer pointed out that some stations consider
themselves to be an A.M. or P.M. peak station, while
others are off-peak stations. Van Wormer also reported
that of the 16,000 total vehicles per day on Little
Canada Road, 1,500 are going by during the P.M. peak.
There are 900 vehicles during the A.M. peak, about 1,000
6
