MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 11, 1994
Pedersen suggested that a survey be done to determine
if the residents want a sidewalk improvement and if
they are willing to pay for it. Pedersen reported that
the City of Minneapolis assesses the cost of sidewalks.
Morelan pointed out that the sidewalk improvement would
benefit residents on Lake Street, Rose Place, and
Lakeshore Avenue between these two streets. Morelan
reported that there are currently children from that
area cutting through yards in order to get over to the
convenience store. Morelan estimated that that was
another 27 homes which would benefit by the sidewalk
improvement. Morelan felt that from a safety
standpoint the City needed to provide a sidewalk in
this area.
Scalze felt that the blacktop path through the quiet
area along the Jackson Street easement should be
improved whether a sidewalk along old County Road C and
Lakeshore is improved or not.
Morelan agreed that the issues were separate and that
one did not necessarily preclude the other.
Scalze also pointed out that there is a 30-foot road
easement from the end of Lake Street to 5avage Lake,
and suggested that a blacktop path be improved down to
the lake shore.
Pedersen asked what the path would go to.
Morelan asked if this path were on the master plan.
Scalze replied that it was not, but felt it was
something that should be considered.
LaValle suggested that there were some large trees in
the center of the Jackson Street easement area, and
asked if it were feasible to extend a trail to
Australian given the location of these trees.
Scalze thought that the trail easement had been staked
last year and it was determined that a trail could be
extended without disturbing any trees.
LaValle suggested that the Public Works Superintendent
verify this.
7
