MINUTES CITY COUNCIL MAY 25, 1994 Ayes (4) Morelan, Scalze, Pedersen, LaValle. Nays (1) Hanson. Resolution declared adopted. CONCEPT Mr. Gordie Howe, representing Masterpiece Homes, RE~IIEW - appeared before the Council requesting concept review REZONING of a proposal to rezone property along Minnesota FROM R-2 Street from R-1 to R-2 so that he might develop TO R-1 - townhomes on the property. Howe reported that he is MINNESOTA proposing four townhome buildings consisting of 22 STREET - units. Price ranges for the individual units will be MASTERPIECE from $135,000 to $150,000 on the west side of the HOMES street, and $200,000 on the east side of the street. Since a rezoning requires four affirmative votes of the Council, Howe indicated that he would like to know the Council's feelings on the concept before he proceeds further and incurs engineering and surveying costs. Scalze felt that a townhome development would be a good use of this property. Scalze did not believe the property was a good R-1 or commercial site, and that townhomes were a good fit. Morelan felt that the townhome price range proposed by Howe would fill a housing segment which the City currently does not have. Scalze estimated that the City currently has only 40 townhomes total. Scalze pointed out that the property proposed to be rezoned is surrounded by commercial, therefore, not a good single-family home site. Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION N0. 94-5-125 - APPROVING THE CONCEPT REZONING FROM R-1 TO R-2 OF TAE MINNESOTA STREET SITE AS PROPOSED BY GORDIE HOWE OF MASTERPIECE HOMES The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle. Ayes (5) Scalze, LaValle, Hanson, Pedersen, Morelan. Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. RECE55 At this point in the meeting, 8:55 P.M., Council took a short recess.
