MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 22, 1994
PARK The City Administrator reported that the Parks and
ACQUISITION Recreation Commission would like authorization to
ISSUES invite the owners of the Turnquist and McNamara
properties to their next meeting to discuss the
possible acquisition of these properties as park land.
The Commission is also suggesting that the owner of the
property just north of the NSP powerline property on
the west side of Edgerton be contacted to determine the
asking price of that lot. The Administrator noted the
NSP property just adjacent, and felt it would be in the
City's best interests to deal with NSP for a trail
easement, rather than a private property owner. The
Administrator noted that the NSP property will remain
open, but the lot to the north has the potential for
having a structure on it. The Administrator felt there
may be some confusion on the part of the Park and
Recreation Commission as to where the property
boundaries are. The Administrator suggested that
perhaps Public Works could locate the property corners
for the Commission's review. If the corner irons are
not in place, Public Works can measure the lot widths
back from County Road D to determine the corners of the
NSP property.
Morelan asked what type of park development is being
proposed for the Turnquist and McNamara properties
should the City acquire it.
Remerowski pointed out that the Park & Recreation
Commission is interested in the McNamara property in
lieu of the park land adjacent to the Rue property.
Scalze reported that the Commission has discussed
acquisition of the Turnquist property as a wetland and
wildlife preservation area. The City already has some
access points into this area which is the only
untouched wetland in the City.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 94-6-157 - AUTHORIZING THE PARK AND
RECREATION COMMISSION TO INVITE THE OWNERS OF THE
TURNQUIST PROPERTY AND THE MCNAMARA PROPERTY TO THEIR
NEXT MEETING TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE ACQUISITION OF THESE
PROPERTIES BY THE CITY, AND INSTRUCTING THE PUBLIC
WORKS SUPERINTENDENT TO DEFINE THE PROPERTY CORNERS OF
THE NSP PROPERTY ON THE WEST SIDE OF EDGERTON STREET
10
