MINUPES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 9, 1994
pointed out that at a water main improvement hearing on
Keller Parkway, the residents will have to be informed
of the cost savings that can be achieved by combining
that project with the County's street reconstruction.
COMM[INITY Scalze reported that she has discussed with Bill
PRIDE Sanders the possibility of applying for grants for
COMMITTEE Gervais Mill Park. Scalze pointed out that the
Community Pride Committee was the driving force behind
some previous grant applications as well as the fact
that grant approvals can be influenced by active
community groups in a city. Scalze suggested that
perhaps it is time to get the Community Pride Committee
going again to enhance the City's chances for grants in
Gervais Mill Park as well as other areas.
Hanson explained that the Community Pride Committee was
made up of two Council Members, City Department Heads,
the Planning Commission Chair, and representatives of
the business community.
Scalze reported that the City originally had an
Economic Development Committee for a period of time.
After that the Community Pride Committee was formed and
worked well.
Hanson pointed out that other areas the Committee was
involved in was City-wide clean-up day, as well as code
enforcement in Ryan Industrial Park. Committee members
served at no cost to the City.
Morelan asked if there was a lot of staff time
involved.
The Administrator did not believe there was a lot of
staff time involved, and felt the time spent by staff
as part of the Committee was productive and triggered
staff doing some things that might not otherwise have
been done.
Hanson did not feel the City could have gotten
accomplished what it did in Ryan Industrial Park
without the Committee.
Scalze agreed. Scalze suggested that if the Committee
were formed again, it would include representation from
the Chamber as well as citizens at large.
The Administrator suggested that the Committee could be
used as a sounding board for economic development
issues.
Page 10
