MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 10, 1994
City Council, and asked any of the Council who might be
interested to contact NYFS.
The Council asked what sort of renovations were needed
to the League building.
Martin replied that mechanical work is needed on the
air-conditioning and heating systems. Some simple
remodeling is needed to convert space to a youth center
and teen health center. NYFS has also included its
operating budget for next year in the fund-raising
campaign.
Morelan asked the effect that national health care
reform will have on NYFS.
Ciernia anticipated that there would be an effect on
NYFS, however, pointed out that the agency is becoming
a provider in some of the managed providers networks.
However, it is not known how national health care
reform will finally be worked out and the resulting
impact to NYFS.
Morelan asked if the 55 Little Canada residents
assisted with employment services during 1993 were
youth, senior citizens, or a combination of the two.
Kay Andrews, Executive Director, NYFS, replied that 55
youth living in Little Canada were provided employment
services. These youth were linked up with senior
citizens, most of whom live in Little Canada, to do
chores and provide help to these seniors.
Martin pointed out that one of the thinqs that
impressed her about NYFS is their work with first-time
offenders. Martin felt that the money spent on this
program was a small amount to pay for keeping kids out
of trouble later on.
NYFS thanked the Council for allowing them to make
their presentation this evening.
CONSENT Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and
AGENDA moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 94-8-211 - APPROVING THE CONSENT AGENDA
WHICH CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING:
5
