MINIJTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />SEPTEt4BER 28, 1994 <br />Morelan asked why the position would not be advertised <br />right away. <br />The Administrator reported that most interns come from <br />local educational programs. The schools maintain a <br />listing of such candidates. Contacting the schools <br />initially may save the City time and money and result <br />in qetting the position filled quickly. The <br />Administrator estimated the cost of a metro-wide ad at <br />$250. The Administrator reported that a number of <br />cities hiring interns contact the educational <br />institutions for list of candidates. <br />Morelan stated that he would prefer to advertise the <br />position since there may be someone local who might be <br />interested but would not otherwise know about the <br />position. <br />Pedersen suggested that the Administrator contact the <br />educational institutions for candidates, and if this <br />does not work, the position be advertised. <br />Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and <br />moved its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION NO. 94-9-342 - APPROVING THE HIRING OF AN <br />INTERN AS RECOMMENDED BY THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle. <br />Ayes (4) Scalze, LaValle, Hanson, Pedersen. <br />Nays (1) Morelan. Resolution declared adopted. <br />Hanson suggested that notice of the availability of an <br />intern position be placed on Cable TV. <br />Morelan agreed that this is the very least the City <br />should do, and felt that the position should be <br />advertised in the local newspaper. <br />GERVAIS MILL The City Administrator reported that the City has <br />TREE PLANTING received approval of an SBA matching grant for tree <br />GRANT planting in Gervais Mill Park in the amount of $5,000. <br />The City's share of the matching funds have been <br />designated in the 1995 Capital Improvement Budget. The <br />Parks & Recreation Commission is recommending that the <br />low bid received from Southview Design and Consultants <br />be awarded with planting to occur in October.
