MINIJTES CITY COUNCIL SEPTEt4BER 28, 1994 Morelan asked why the position would not be advertised right away. The Administrator reported that most interns come from local educational programs. The schools maintain a listing of such candidates. Contacting the schools initially may save the City time and money and result in qetting the position filled quickly. The Administrator estimated the cost of a metro-wide ad at $250. The Administrator reported that a number of cities hiring interns contact the educational institutions for list of candidates. Morelan stated that he would prefer to advertise the position since there may be someone local who might be interested but would not otherwise know about the position. Pedersen suggested that the Administrator contact the educational institutions for candidates, and if this does not work, the position be advertised. Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION NO. 94-9-342 - APPROVING THE HIRING OF AN INTERN AS RECOMMENDED BY THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle. Ayes (4) Scalze, LaValle, Hanson, Pedersen. Nays (1) Morelan. Resolution declared adopted. Hanson suggested that notice of the availability of an intern position be placed on Cable TV. Morelan agreed that this is the very least the City should do, and felt that the position should be advertised in the local newspaper. GERVAIS MILL The City Administrator reported that the City has TREE PLANTING received approval of an SBA matching grant for tree GRANT planting in Gervais Mill Park in the amount of $5,000. The City's share of the matching funds have been designated in the 1995 Capital Improvement Budget. The Parks & Recreation Commission is recommending that the low bid received from Southview Design and Consultants be awarded with planting to occur in October.
