MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 12, 1994
Cardinal pointed out the stop sign at the intersection
of County Road C and Cypress. This stop sign was put
up at the request of County Commissioner Hal Norgard
after neighborhood demand for it.
Cardinal thanked the Council for pursuing the stop sign
for him, even though the County denied the request.
Cardinal again stated that the purpose of the stop sign
would be to slow traffic. Cardinal pointed out that
Keller Parkway is a 30 mph zone, however, traffic
speeds approach 50 mph during rush hour and on
weekends. Cardinal stated that he would pursue the
stop sign request with County Commissioner Brenda
Thomas.
Scalze agreed that stop signs do slow traffic, and this
is the reason that the stop sign at County Road C and
Cypress was installed. Scalze felt the County's system
for handling these types of requests was unfair.
Cardinal pointed out that it took someone getting hurt
on County Road B-2 before a stop sign was installed.
Morelan suggested that the City request the Sheriff's
Department place the Smart Van near Keller Parkway and
Lakeside Court. Morelan felt the 5mart Van would be a
deterrent to speeding by letting people know just how
fast they are traveling.
The City Administrator stated that he would make this
request of the Sheriff's Department. The Administrator
pointed out that the van has been place in the City
several time since it was purchased. The Administrator
also suggested that he request the Sheriff's Department
to have their traffic car patrol the area.
Cardinal pointed out that several children have to walk
Keller Parkway to and from the school bus each day.
Cardinal felt the high traffic speeds and limited
shoulder area were very dangerous. Again, Cardinal
thanked the Council for their support of his request.
DEVELOPMENT The City Administrator reported that the City Attorney
MORATORIUM has drafted an ordinance which would place a 90-day
B-3 development moratorium on all B-3 Districts within the
PROPERTIES City. This matter was discussed at the last Council
13
