MINUTE5
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 12, 1994
of the City Administrator.
LaValle asked what Michelle DeBace's long-range plans
might be. LaValle reported that the senior community
is very impressed with her performance.
The Director reported that DeBace is an excellent
employee and would definitely like to find a full-time
position in the parks and recreation field. DeBace
currently works for Little Canada on a 1/4 time basis,
while working for two other cities part-time as well.
Scalze stated that she, too, has heard some very
favorable comments about DeBace's performance. Scalze
noted that DeBace is handling coordination of senior
programs, and asked if there were needs in this area
that could be met by adding additional hours to the
position.
The City Administrator pointed out that the salary
recommendations include moving DeBace along the salary
scale quicker due to the fact that she is an excellent
employee. The Administrator stated that he understands
that ultimately she would like a full-time position.
The Administrator suggested that perhaps he and the
Parks & Rec Director could take a look at her hours and
see if there are City needs not being met that she
could address. The Administrator stated that DeBace
definitely has talent, and it may not be possible for
the City to retain her on a long-term basis.
Morelan suggested that the Director identify the needs
of the department and make sure they are being met. If
there is a need that DeBace can address, that can be
discussed.
The City Administrator suqgested that if additional
department needs are identified, he would be looking at
addressing them in 1996, but suggested that perhaps
this could be accelerated. The Administrator reported
that there are options which can be evaluated such as
offsetting increased costs through the 201 Fund.
Scalze agreed that if programs are enhanced perhaps
increased program fees could cover additional salary
expense for DeBace.
The Administrator reported that the various options
6
