MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
NOVEPffiER 9, 1994
BLOCKWORKER Lynnae LeBarron, Roseville Area Senior Program,
PROGRAM - appeared before the Council to report on the progress
ROSEVILLE that has been made in the expansion of the blockworker
AREA SENIOR program into the Little Canada area. LeBarron reported
PROGRAM that seven neighborhoods were identified as having a
higher concentration of individuals over the age of 60.
228 households in these neighborhoods were called by
volunteers, and as a result of that telephone survey,
three areas were identified for a door-to-door survey.
These areas are the St. John's neighborhood (Morrison,
Demont, Rose Place), County Road C, and Noel Drive. A
flyer was then mailed to each household in these areas
indicating that a trained volunteer from the community
would be calling on them within the next couple of
weeks. Five volunteers were trained and given scripts
for dialog as well as survey materials. These
volunteers also brought with them copies of materials
that would be of interest to the seniors.
As a result of these efforts, the Blockworker Program
has been set up in the three neighborhoods described
above. There is also need for a blockworker in the
Noel Drive and County Road C neighborhoods. A
blockworker has been identified for the Morrison/Rose
Place/Demont neighborhood. A presentation was made at
a 55+ Club meeting, and four potential blockworkers
were identified.
LeBarron reported that the Roseville Area Senior
Program is also looking into the future and is
conducting discussions with Mayfield. There are
several individuals interested in having the
Blockworker Program in this facility as well as in a
couple of the City~s trailer park areas.
LeBarron reported that the Senior Program is requesting
$1,600 additional in funding in order to continue the
Blockworker Program. LeBarron stated that they are
excited about the program as are seniors within the
community.
Hanson asked that LeBarron provide the City with
printed materials which can be available at City I-Iall
and which describe the senior programs offered.
LeBarron reported that the senior task force is
currently working on a brochure which should be ready
within the next couple of weeks and which will include
4
