MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
J1INUARY 18 , 19 9 5
difference to the property owner for hooking up to
water based on which side of the road the water main is
installed.
The City Engineer estimated that it would cost $500 to
$800 more for hook-ups if the water main is placed on
the south side of the road. The Engineer pointed out
that should the street not be reconstructed, it would
be patched in the areas where the hydrants and water
services are run, in addition to replacement of the
section around the curb from Parcel B to Lot 28.
Service lines would be run to the property lines of the
individual lots.
Morelan asked if the cost of alignment #1 included
easement acquisition costs.
The Engineer replied that it did not.
The Administrator reported that most property owners
have indicated they would dedicate the necessary
easements, however, one has indicated they would not.
Fahey pointed out that if the one property owner would
not dedicate the easement for alignment #1, the City
would have to go to condemnation. From that standpoint, the City favors an
alignment which does not require the acquisition of
additional easements.
Morelan asked if Viking Drive were a City street.
The Administrator replied that it is currently a State
road, however, the State has plans to turn it back to
the City. The Administrator reported that the State
may give the City some dollars as part of the turn-
back, however, it has been indicated that the amount of
those dollars will be minimal.
Fahey again pointed out that City staff is recommending
the reconstruction of Viking Drive.
The Administrator pointed out that the street does not
meet current standards. The area of Viking Drive below
the hill is in poor shape. The remainder of the street
is in fairly good shape, however, most of that section
3
