MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 25, 1995
Pedersen asked about potential tree loss should the
grid system be extended back into the hill.
The Engineer reported that the wall will not cause the
loss of any more trees than the one-to-one slope would.
The Engineer reported that the structural department at
her firm has indicated that there would be no tree loss
as a result of installation of the grid system.
Fahey pointed out that the wall system will provide
more flat area on County Road B-2 for children to wait
for school buses and will provide a nice entrance to
the neighborhood.
Morelan stated that his first inclination is to support
the wall system. His only concern was the cost.
Morelan agreed that wall system would provide a nice
entry into the Dianna Lane neighborhood.
Council asked how long a timber wall system would last.
The Engineer estimated its life at between 5 and 10
years.
LaValle suggested that the City obtain quotes for both
the timber and keystone wall to compare the costs.
Morelan pointed out that the City has the Engineer's
estimates, and suggested that the City not tie up too
much of the Engineer~s time putting together additional
estimates.
Scalze suggested that the City obtain estimates from a
landscape company.
Pedersen asked the current condition of the wall.
The Engineer reported that it is deteriorating, but
stable enough to last another year.
The Administrator suggested that he get the cost
estimated for both options, and the Council can then
have additional discussion on how to proceed.
Dave Johnson, 2345 Arcade Street, reported that his
backyard abuts the east wall. Johnson reported that he
and his wife prefer the slope option, pointing out that
similar slopes exist along County Road B-2 and Arcade
24
