MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 25, 1995
A property owner suggested that the slopinq option
would affect more of the trees than the wall.
The City Engineer reported that both a one-to-one slope
and a four-to-one slope were initially considered. The
four-to-one slope would have been maintainable, but
would have had an adverse impact on trees. The one-to-
one slope would result in minimal tree loss, however,
there is no guarantee under either the slope option or
wall option that some of the tree roots might not be
cut.
Dennis Getter pointed out that the Johnson's will not
be able to see the wall, and disagreed that the slope
would be more attractive than the wall. Getter felt
the slope would end up as a burnt out patch of weeds,
and he preferred the stone wall option.
Scalze noted that the petition indicates that residents
favor either the stone wall or timber wall.
Fahey stated that he would like cost information on
both the stone and timber wall options. Fahey felt
that the wall was preferable to the slope. Fahey felt
a contractor would be able to price out both options.
Morelan felt it was clear that the stone wall was the
way to go, therefore, felt it unnecessary to price the
timber wall option.
Johnson suggested that the design of the wall might
alleviate some of his concerns regarding damage to the
root systems of trees in the area.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 95-1-31 - INSTRUCTING THE CITY
ADMINISTRATOR TO OBTAIN QUOTATIONS FOR INSTALLATION OF
BOTH A KEYSTONE WALL SYSTEM AND TIMBER WALL AT THE
ENTRANCE OF THE DIANNA LANE NEIGHBORHOOD AND REPORT
BACK TO THE COUNCIL AT THE FEBRUARY 23RD COUNCIL
MEETING
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by LaValle.
Ayes (4) Scalze, LaValle, Pedersen, Fahey.
Nays (1) Morelan. Resolution declared adopted.
26
