MINiPrES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 22, 1995
with the improvement and shrink the pavement width in
whatever areas necessary in order to save trees.
Scalze did not agree unless the road is shrunk to avoid
cutting and filling.
Morelan agreed with Scalze's comments, except for
reducing the shoulder width to increase traffic lane
width. Morelan felt there was more benefit to a 5 foot
shoulder rather than 4 foot versus a 12 foot driving
lane to an 11 foot. Morelan stated that he understood
that the improvement will be a change for the residents
along the lake, but pointed out that the road would
have been 40 feet in width if not for the unique
situation that exists. Morelan felt the 32-foot width
was workable for the entire community and not impacting
the area any more than necessary. Morelan pointed out
that the good news is that most trees can be avoided.
Fahey stated that he opposed the 32-foot width feeling
that the needs of walkers and bikers can be
accommodated with 4-foot shoulders and a 30-foot
pavement width. Fahey felt that the 30-foot width
balanced the interests of the neighborhood with the
walkers and bikers. Fahey stated that he would like to
preserve as much of the aesthetics of the area as
possible.
Mrs. Scalze introduced the following resolution and
moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION N0. 95-2-57 - DECLARING THAT THE CITY OF
LITTLE CANADA WILL COOPERATE WITH RAMSEY COUNTY IN THE
RECONSTRUCTION OF KELLER PARKWAY WITH TWO 11-FOOT
DRIVING LANES AND TWO 5-FOOT PAVED SHOULDERS ON EACH
SIDE OF THE ROAD
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Morelan.
Ayes (4) Scalze, Morelan, LaValle, Pedersen.
Nays (1) Fahey.
