MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
Ml1RCH 8, 1995
City has considered the school property as serving
neighborhood park needs as well. 5anders pointed out
that there are three neighborhood parks on the east
side of the freeway. Sanders felt that a neighborhood
park was needed in the Jackson Street area, pointing
out the single-family homes in that area as well as the
fact that the McNamara property is adjacent to some
apartment and condominium development. Therefore,
there are a large number of people in the area which
would be served by a park.
Fahey asked if the park could be connected to the Water
Works property.
Sanders replied that a trail connection could be made.
Sanders also pointed out that residents of the adjacent
apartment complex have asked for the development of
basketball courts in the area.
The Administrator stated the possibility may exist to
get the new owners of The Provinces to participate in
this development to enhance their buildings should the
sale be finalized.
Pedersen pointed out that Mr. Rue would like to
purchase a portion of the existing park property
adjacent to his business for additional parking area.
Hartmann felt that more people would utilize a
neighborhood park developed on the McNamara property
since it is more centrally located.
Fahey stated that he liked the idea of a park on the
McNamara property because a park would accentuate the
fact that this is a residential area and not
commercial. Fahey pointed out that the McNamara
property is for sale, and the City should be able to
acquire the 100 foot strip.
The City Administrator reported that he has discussed
price with Mr. McNamara, and it is expensive.
Hartmann pointed out that when the McNamara property
develops, the City can take the land as a park charge
rather than taking cash. It was pointed out that a 10%
land park charge would result in just the amount of
property the City is looking for.
6
