MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 24, 1995
meeting.
Boss felt it important for the design people to meet
with the business owners to discuss their thoughts as
well as what the business owners may or may not want to
do. This should occur on an individual basis, and not
in a public setting. Boss felt that business owners
may otherwise take offense to being presented with
detailed drawings that did not include input from
detailed individual discussions.
Fifield replied that there will be opportunity for
people to come in and provide input through the
workshops and town meetings. If that is not O.K., the
consultants should be advised.
Scalze asked what input would be obtained through
individual meetings that could not be obtained here.
Boss replied that there could be input that business
owners may not want to provide in a public setting.
Boss reported that he has had several meetings with the
representative of the Venetian Development Corporation,
and that developer knows their feelings. Boss stated
that he would not want to see a City consultant come
out with drawings that exclude existing plans for a
grand day plan that looks nice.
Fifield reported that the consultant group does not
intend to come in in September with a bunch of pretty
pictures that do not have a chance of happening. That
is the furthest thing from their minds. The plan must
reflect the reality of the existing businesses and the
reality of new businesses.
Boss indicated that the existing businesses will drive
the development, and have driven it to this very point.
Boss stated that he is asking that individual attention
be considered.
Fahey suggested that this can be discussed and
individual meetings may be further down the road.
Fahey suggested that the Council see how many business
owners come in and provide input. Fahey pointed out
that the Council knows that some businesses want to
move forward with the project, and others want to be
left alone. If businesses or property owners want to
be left alone, Fahey stated that he did not see that
was a difficult thing to share in a workshop session.
Fahey did not believe the consultants should spend time
negotiating a deal with property owners. The Council
is looking at what is best for the City, and some of
the plan may not go because existing businesses may not
want it to go.
10
