MINi]TES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 24, 1995
Fahey pointed out that this is a community project and
the process will not work without community input. If
the public is not interested, the City could end up
with a plan that goes no where.
Joe Vitale asked if Rice Street property owners were
notified of tonight's workshop.
Fifield replied that they were not notified. This
first workshop is the beginning needed to set the right
direction. Notice will be given of the town meetings,
and as many people as possible will be encouraged to
attend.
Mark Lendway suggested that once the calendar is
established, that it be mailed to all the property
owners along Rice Street from the Winter's property
north to The Market Place 5hopping Center.
Fifield pointed out that the next matter to discuss is
setting the calendar. Once dates are set, people will
be qiven plenty of advance notice of town meetings and
workshops. Fifield stated that he had no problem with
the suggestion of establishing a mailing list.
Fahey suggested that City staff administer the mailing
list sending out meeting notices and any advance
reports that might be generated. It was also suggested
that the minutes of these workshops be published.
Schroeder suggested that not limiting the number of
people at the workshops could be counter-productive.
The meetings become more difficult to administer and
people are not totally cognizant of all the issues.
Schroeder felt that a workshop at which there were
approximately 20 participants was ideal, so that there
could be more one-on-one types of discussions.
Scalze stated that she did not believe there would be
50 to 60 people attending the workshops.
Fifield stated that they would accommodate as many
people as appropriate. However, they need to
anticipate how many may attend since they would plan
differently for 20 than they would for 60.
Schroeder felt it important for everyone to understand
that the plan is a work in process.
Fahey suggested that the consultants proceed with the
Council as the steering committee, and no limitation on
public input into the process.
4
