MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 24, 1995
Calendar
The calendar submitted by the consultants was reviewed
with a consensus on dates as follows:
Town Meeting - Wednesday, May 31st;
Workshop #2 - Wednesday, June 21st;
Workshop #3 - Wednesday, July 19th;
Town Meeting - Tuesday, August 8th;
Workshop #4 - Thursday, August 31st.
All meetings would begin at approximately 7:00 P.M.
Locations to be announced later.
Initial Perceptions
Fifield asked those present for their initial
perceptions of the study area. Questions to consider
are as follows:
*What are the distinguishing characteristics of the
Rice Street/Little Canada Road areas?
*What are the strengths and weaknesses of the area?
*Where does this area draw shoppers?
*Do you shop on Rice Street?
*Where do you shop? What attracts you?
The following are the comments and perceptions offered
by those present:
Rice Street is a road to get to and from somewhere.
Going to homes to the north, coming from work to the
south. Not one for stopping off along the way.
Drunk drivers after 4:30 P.M.
Little Canada Road used to access 35E.
Rice Street/Little Canada Road "T" intersection is
unique. Good traffic flow, but fast speeds.
1996 reconstruction of Little Canada Road will make a
difference. There may be 3 or 4 lanes intersecting
into Rice Street.
Market Place a primary shopping destination in Little
Canada. Rainbow and Snyders on each end, but not much
in between.
Rainbow is nice for quick stops, but a nicer Rainbow
(White Bear Avenue) or Cub (Maplewood) for heavier
shopping.
County Road C carries more traffic than Little Canada
5
